World’ s first malaria vaccine close to final approval

The world’s first malaria vaccine Mosquirix, or RTS, has received green light from European Medicines Agency on Friday after 30 years’ research, for preventing millions of children in Africa from malaria.

Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline announced on Friday that the European Medicines Agency has adopted a positive scientific opinion for the new vaccine, bringing it closer to final approval. Following this decision, the World Health Organization would assess and decide whether to recommend the use of the vaccine later this year.
