World’s first “luxury gold” cableway opens to public

A gilded cableway has opened to the public at a scenic area in Zhangjiajie, central China’s Hunan Province, just before China’s lunar New Year.

All chair lifts are renovated, and painted with a golden color.

Staff at the Wulingyuan Scenic Spot say it makes the cableway the first in the world to feature a “luxury gold” color.

SOUNDBITE(CHINESE)PENG BIN, Wulingyuan Scenic Area management team:
“The “luxury gold” ropeway at Tianzi Mountain makes it easier for tourists. Now we have four cableways at Wulingyuan Scenic Area, which would help reduce long queues at the attractions.”

Known for its high peaks, the Wulingyuan Scenic Area was listed as a world heritage site in 1992.

The mountains in Wulingyuan are believed to be the model behind the striking scenery in the movie “Avatar”, which further boosted its appeal as an international tourist destination.
