World’s largest human migration gets into full swing

China’s transportation system is carrying a record number of passengers during the “Chunyun,” a peak travel period around the Lunar New Year Festival.

More than 2.9 billion trips are expected to be made via road, railway, air and water between Jan. 24 and March 3 in the annual migration, up 3.6 percent year on year, according to the National Development and Reform Commission, the country’s top economic planner.

This year, the Lunar New Year falls on Feb. 8.
