Xinjiang tourism bounces back

Tourism in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region is improving after being hit hard last year.

The regional tourism bureau says, in the first half of 2015, nearly 16 million domestic tourists visited Xinjiang, 15.8 percent up on last year.

The region has attracted 667,700 foreign tourists, up 7.8 percent year-on-year. Domestic and foreign tourists have spent more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars there.

Xinjiang has eight top-level 5A tourist attractions. 16 new sites are under construction.

Xinjiang is tapping its resources including flowers, deserts, hot springs and mountains to attract more visitors.
