The UN envoy to Yemen has hailed a “constructive” first full day of peace talks between the country’s warring factions. The Yemeni government and Houthi rebels held their first direct meeting in the UN-backed peace process on Friday in Kuwait city. The talks seek a solution to the one-year conflict. The UN envoy, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, called for a halt to air strikes by the Saudi-led coalition and an end to missile fire by Iran-backed rebels.
