Members of the Youth Congress today staged protests against the Railway Ministry in Delhi, following Sunday’s late-night demolition drive at Shakur Basti, which allegedly led to the death of an infant.
Reportedly, workers of the Youth Congress also burnt effigies during the protest.
The Delhi High Court today observed that the demolition drive by the Ministry had endangered many lives.
Railway officials have said that they conducted the “anti-encroachment” drive to create land for a new passenger terminal. They said the child’s death, reported around 10 am on Sunday, had nothing to do with the removal of the slum.
