Colombia’s national health institute has said more than 2,100 pregnant women are now infected with the mosquito-borne Zika virus, for which there is no vaccine or treatment. There are over 20,000 confirmed cases of the disease altogether in the country. The virus has been linked to the devastating birth defect, microcephaly, which prevents the fetal brain from developing properly.
