Dr Fatris Bakaram, outgoing Mufti at the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, said that it is only fair to pass the baton to someone who can offer new ideas and rejuvenate the association. He was addressing questions that he was stepping down too soon. During his nine years as Mufti, he led the development of many progressive religious policies and religious guidance on complex issues. He also contributed to the development of programmes that helped build the next generation of religious teachers and scholars. Deputy Mufti Dr Nazirudin Nasir will take over as the new Mufti on March 1.
